Games

UNDER CONSTRUCTION

In recent years I've started learning how to use Godot to make games. When I was younger I used to dabble in RPG Maker a bunch when I was making silly MIDI music, though I never really finished a project back then. Still, I've had an interest in making games for many years so it felt like it was about time to dive into it more. Below are some projects that I've made in my spare time!

My Games

Little Frog Game

Little Frog Game is a little game about a little frog. I started this little project on a whim in Godot and it became a "full" game (it is very short) - it isn't much but it felt really great to finish something like this.

The mechanics are pretty straightforward - it is a standard platformer in a lot of ways. You run and jump around the levels, you can colllect flies and some secret Golden Beetles throughout, and there are enemies and hazards to watch out for. One novel mechanic is the water meter, as frogs need to stay hydrated the meter runs down slowly when out of water. Small pools are placed throughout the levels to act as "checkpoints" and places to refill your meter.

In retrospect, there are a few blunders with the overall design of the game, most notably the lives system. I think it would have been a more chill time to just allow infinite respawns. I also think that maybe the water meter could double as a sort of health bar rather than having one-hit KOs. But for my first attempt at finishing an original game, I am pretty happy with it overall! I learned a lot making this little game.

Jamrunner

Created during a game jam that was appropriately called "My First Game Jam", this was the first game I ever finished in Godot. It's really not much but I did learn a lot and felt accomplished in finishing a small project. It is a simple auto-runner where the goal is to collect 50 coins and not hit any hazards or fall into pits. I made several small level segments and had the game place them randomly as the player progresses - given the timeframe of the jam I didn't end up making a ton of variety, but it was functional. I have considered making a more robust runner at some point - perhaps even just as a minigame in another larger project. We'll see!
