UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Below are some links to various cool freebies, including plugins/software for music-making, resoures for game dev, and more. These are things that I find to be cool, helpful, or just straight up interesting. I hope you find something neat!

I'll be limiting these lists to things that I've personally used or have some familiarity with. However, now more than ever there are a ton of freely available resources to get you started on any creative endeavour. It's never too late to start something fun and new! If nothing here strikes your fancy, you'll still likely be able to find something out there. Never give up, believe in yourself and do your best!

Cool Plugins

    Synths / Sound Generators

  1. Yamaha S-YXG50: Yamaha XG softsynth, very old and 32-bit but if your DAW still supports this it is a great lightweight General MIDI plugin (with some solid extended voices as well)

  2. Genny VST/FL: Emulation of the Genesis/Mega Drive soundchips - has both a VST and FL-specific version (which allows for some extra piano roll controls if you use FL). Great for a free option.
  3. Effects

  4. illformed/dblue FX Plugins: illformed has a selection of free Windows plugins available on their site - again these are old and 32-bit plugins. I am a fan of dblue tapestop, but there are a few in there that have their uses.

Cool Software

    Music

  1. Sekaiju: Cool free MIDI sequencer for Windows.
  2. Gamedev

  3. Godot Game Engine: Free and open source game engine. I enjoy using it personally and it has gained popularity in recent years.
  4. Art

  5. Blender: Immensely popular 3D modeling software - a wealth of tutorials and resources are available.
  6. Primabase: Free tool that links Blender and Aseprite editors together - really useful for low-poly 3D aesthetics.

Cool Websites

  1. Noclip: This is a really cool site that has 3D modeled environments from lots of games. You can load the levels and freely move the camera. Works great as a reference tool, or even just to take in some sweet vibes.
